WORKSHOP
DR. JACOB LIEBERMAN
PSYCHOTHERAPY OSTEOPATH
Voice problems can manifest in a variety of symptoms:
Throat pain and discomfort, feeling of a lump in the throat, recurrent loss of voice, lack of vocal resistance, voice fatigue, early morning loss of voice, dry throat, inability to project the voice, hoarseness, loss of vocal range and many other symptoms. Some may involve tension in the jaw, floor of the mouth, or neck region.
Voice problems can occur due to excessive use, such as teachers, singers, actors and other voice users. Voice symptoms may also be associated with vocal cord pathology, such as vocal cord nodules or overuse which can lead to high muscle tension, joint stiffness and loss of flexibility and healthy laryngeal functions. In many of these cases, a videostroboscopy of the larynx does not even reveal a lesion in the vocal cords.
Manual therapy aims to examine the larynx by assessing the state of muscle tension, joint movement and the general function of the entire laryngeal mechanism. If muscle tension, decreased flexibility and their functions are identified, manual techniques are applied to resolve this tension and restore normal voice box function. The assessment also includes observation of posture and respiratory system, both of which play an important role in using the voice in a healthy and efficient way.
